As every summer approaches, we set out to plan our vacations and face the indecision of choosing the best destination, where we can find paradisiacal beaches. Here you can find some ideas:

Es Racó de S’Alga

S’Alga, a paradisiacal beach with a Caribbean appearance, no buildings or beach bars, is located on the small island of Espalmador, about 200 meters from Formentera. Three kilometers of white sand and shallow waters, a postcard dream. You can reach it by walking after a long journey and swimming across, or walking if the current is not too strong, but the most comfortable way is always by boat. The watchtower (Torre de Sa Guardiola) observes from the highest point the passage of tourists along the coast of this island, especially protected because it is private and part of the Ses Salines Natural Park, due to its rich variety of fauna and flora. Both reasons have prevented the presence of bars or apartments, making it undoubtedly more interesting and appealing.

Ses Illetes

It is the most well-known postcard of Formentera, a perfect blend of turquoise blues and greens with almost perfect clarity in the water. Surely, the sandy stretch you remember when you think of this island. This also means that it is the most crowded beach on the island, probably excessively so in high season, and the prices are not cheap at the beach bars, which, unlike S’Alga, are abundant here. Yachts are also not uncommon. As for tourists, Italians are the most common. To try to protect paradise, access by vehicle is charged (car, four euros; motorcycle, two; or quads, eight).

Cala des Mort

It is a small jewel (small in size) with crystal-clear waters and white sand, very close to a hotel-resort, easily accessible, which makes it comfortable and tempting for many people. It is about ten kilometers from Sant Francesc Xavier, between Platja des Migjorn and Es Ram. Large open spaces are an unthinkable dream here, except early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Note it in your agenda to see the sunset.

Es Ram

Equally beautiful as Cala des Mort, but less known, perhaps because access is more challenging. Some reach it through Camí des Ram, through an interesting pine forest, between the villages of Es Caló and El Pilar de la Mola, or by crossing from Playa de Migjorn to Cala des Morts and finally, Es Ram. It is a rocky area frequented by fishermen. Regarding the sand, sometimes the wind can cover it with algae.

Punta Prima

Punta Prima, northeast of Formentera, is a few kilometers from Es Pujols. The bathing area is located under a cliff, although there is a staircase that allows you to descend to the sea. The famous Ses Illetes beach is nearby. There is no sand on this cliff, but the rocks are excellent for a pleasant dive into crystal-clear blue sea. In the Punta Prima area, there are many hotels and rental houses.

Cala Saona

A beach that looks like a cove, or vice versa, located on the west coast. The sandy stretch is large (140 meters long by 120 wide), and the surroundings are superb, especially at sunset. Note: do not think, much less, of a solitary cove, as seen in this photo taken in August. Nearby are houses dotted around a vast pine forest, as well as a hotel. The wooded area is full of trails that invite you to walk before or after swimming, as a complement to the day.

Ses Canyes

Two kilometers from Sant Ferran de Ses Roques, on the north coast of Formentera, between Cala en Baster and Playa de Tramuntana. Easily accessible by road. It is a sandy stretch about 85 meters long where nudism is not uncommon, although it also occurs on other beaches or coves on the island. Calm waters and not too crowded. It is a U-shaped inlet, surrounded by cliffs, in a somewhat isolated but easily accessible area.

Es Caló or Ses Platgetes

A small beach, about fifty meters, which falls into the category of less known and, therefore, not too crowded. White sand and moderate waves, although there are rocks in some areas that may cause some discomfort. In the surroundings, there are fishermen’s sheds, a pine forest, and – best of all – restaurants serving fresh fish.

Es Pujols

A large beach in the traditional sense: in an urban area, with all the services, animation at any time, water sports, shopping areas… A quiet option, without surprises, and comfortable to enjoy with the whole family. During the day, you will find a wide variety of restaurants, and the tempting turquoise color of the waters of Formentera. Some say that many Caribbean advertisements are filmed on the beaches of this Spanish island. At night, the atmosphere is not lacking, perhaps too noisy for more sensitive spirits. As for the town of Es Pujols, like the rest of the island, you will find it full of Italian tourists.

Es Mitjorn

A gigantic beach that runs along the entire south of the island, with many people but also a lot of space. It is always easy to choose a spot with fewer bathers. One of them is Guarachas, where locals often gather. It is a beach of white sand, pine and juniper areas, and dunes. Overall, it has that Caribbean look that is common here and in other sandy areas on the island. Along the coast, within the same beach, there are small coves and inlets. Easy road access, two kilometers from Sant Francesc Xavier, between Mal Pas and Cala des Mort.
